Gitzo Introduces Next Generation Aluminum Tripods

New aluminum is exceptionally lightweight and engineered to offer maximum rigidity.

At this year's PhotoPlus Expo, Gitzo, a world leading manufacturer of high-end, precision supports for the photo and video markets, will be showing off its new line of aluminum Series 2 tripods. Sure to turn heads with new and improved features, a sleek matte black finish and new materials that significantly reduce the overall weight when compared to regular aluminum, Gitzo's innovative Series 2 tripods set a new standard for performance and give aluminum based supports another leg up!

The new two tripods revamp the traditional and highly successful Gitzo aluminum range with a new, revolutionary design concept. While the competition uses 0.8mm or 1.00mm tubes to reduce weight, they're unfortunately at the same time compromising overall stability. However, Gitzo engineers have designed 1.2mm wall tubes for maximum rigidity and stability, while dramatically reducing the weight of other components in order to achieve exceptionally strong and yet extremely light aluminum tripods.

Gitzo's new Soulid 238® upper casting technology is featured in the new aluminum tripods and uses a unique compound 30 percent lighter than traditional aluminum yet as strong as magnesium. The unique upper casting allows for an impressive 60 percent weight reduction over aluminum and introduces a new spring operated leg opening control button, allowing for quicker operation of the tripod legs.

The new aluminum tubes have a matte black brushed finish for reduced light reflection and increased leg locking efficiency. As on the carbon 6X and Basalt tripods, the new aluminum line features Gitzo's advanced Anti Leg Rotation (ALR) system. ALR allows for an ultra-fast and smooth setup. Just loosen all twist locks at the same time and pull down the leg before tightening them, making setup a mere 15 seconds.

For weight reduction and increased performance, Gitzo has used the best of its technology for the center column, leg warmers and a revolutionary upper casting. The rapid center column is made of basalt, not aluminum, for increased vibration absorption and dramatic weight reduction. The leg warmers have been designed from a new material that allows for a 50 percent weight reduction and advanced ergonomics for ease of use, either when carried on the shoulder or when gripping the upper leg.

The new Gitzo 6X tripods also offers a new ground level feature - an example of Gitzo's forward looking engineering and style. For ultra-low shots in a matter of seconds, users now have the ability to attach the upper disc directly to the upper casting. By simply unscrewing the upper disc, bolt and center column hook, users can effortlessly remove the column and reattach and lock in the upper disc directly to the tripod. This clever built-in solution dramatically increases the tripods' flexibility and allows for ground-level shooting angles, weight reduction and increased stability. Also featured on the updated line are removable feet for fitting new worn out rubber feet, spike feet or other accessories.
