Photo Mechanic Integrates Direct Image Uploads to PhotoShelter

BitShelter LLC and Camera Bits, Inc., today announced that direct secure image uploads to PhotoShelter archives are now possible from within Photo Mechanic(TM), the premier photo browser and workflow software for professional photographers. PhotoShelter (www.PhotoShelter.com) is the industry standard for online image archiving and distribution.

"Photo Mechanic is at the center of the workflow process for many professional photographers," said Allen Murabayashi, CEO of BitShelter, LLC, the creators of PhotoShelter. "Making Photo Mechanic and PhotoShelter work together reinforces our commitment to improving end-to-end workflow for today's photographer."

Photographers and editors can use the powerful captioning and keywording functionality of Photo Mechanic, and then immediately make these images publicly searchable on the Internet by uploading them directly to PhotoShelter without ever having to leave Photo Mechanic.

"This is an incredible time-saver for me," said Darren Carroll, a Texas-based freelance sports photographer. "I can edit and caption my images, then immediately upload them to my PhotoShelter account with two mouse clicks, while simultaneously making them publicly searchable. This takes several steps out of my workflow process."

PhotoShelter also understands if an image was "tagged" or rotated in Photo Mechanic, and will carry this information into the archive upon upload, allowing photographers to save their valuable editing information in addition to their images, especially useful in tight deadline situations.

"The integration of PhotoShelter support within Photo Mechanic provides photographers with a solution that makes the process of selling and backing-up their photos a simple extension of their existing photo workflow," said Dennis Walker, Founder and President of Camera Bits, Inc., the creators of Photo Mechanic.

At the heart of this added functionality is the PhotoShelter API (Application Program Interface), which allows programmers to integrate their own applications with PhotoShelter through the use of a series of instructions and commands. Two-way communication is possible with a wide range of applications because the PhotoShelter API uses open standards like XML to facilitate programming and web communications.

Direct upload to PhotoShelter capability will be available in version 4.4.3 of Photo Mechanic to be released at the end of April, 2006. A beta version is available from the Download link at the Camera Bits website http://www.camerabits.com.
